"The Dana Park concert series focuses on local music, and it’s a good way to discover new bands. In early August I caught the Albany-based string band Blind Crow, which plays bluegrass, folk and “dawg music,” the term often used to describe pioneering mandolinist David Grisman’s blend of bluegrass, jazz and other musical genres. Because it was raining, the event had been moved to the nearby Lark Tavern and the crowd was much smaller than it would have been had the concert been held outdoors, under sunny skies."
"As for the music, it was excellent — a sparkling mix of covers and originals. The musicians were all highly skilled, but the highlight was the fleet-fingered fiddling of Ryan Delaney. All in all, this concert was a real treat. I had never heard of Blind Crow before I caught them at the Lark Tavern (the scheduled performer was actually Albany-based multi-instrumentalist Bell’s Roar), and I’d love to see them again. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more from this talented band.
